Rio Mental Health Record

A digital system that unifies mental health records across Rio’s healthcare network, integrating data for nearly 100,000 patients to improve care, public policy planning, and emergency response.

The Rio Mental Health Record (PCSM) is a pioneering initiative we developed in partnership with the Municipal Health Secretariat, through the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Superintendence of Mental Health (SSM-RJ). Launched in December 2020, the PCSM integrates information for users of the city's Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS), replacing old paper records with a unified, intuitive electronic system. It was recognized and awarded as an innovative solution by the Espírito Público Award in 2024.

The system covers 37 Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS) and the Philippe Pinel Institute, consolidating data from over 94,000 records, including patients no longer in treatment. This integration facilitates access to information from any location with an internet connection, enabling faster and more efficient care.

One of the PCSM's innovations is the ability to access real-time patient updates, which has proven crucial in emergency cases. A real-life example demonstrating the value and importance of the PCSM was a family reunion, where a homeless patient was located by their family after two years, thanks to the data integration provided by the system.

Furthermore, the PCSM facilitates the generation of accurate reports, assisting in the planning of more effective public policies and the optimization of services. The system is in constant development, incorporating suggestions from network professionals to better meet user needs.

By valuing mental health patients, professionals, and managers, the Rio Mental Health Record contributes to ensuring representation, equity, and inclusion for historically marginalized groups. It strengthens the public sector and demonstrates the viability of integrated public development systems that optimize data collection for the collective good.
