With 26,000 taxis on the road, the new service meets a long-standing demand from drivers

Taxi.Rio Cidades, the municipal taxi service for Rio de Janeiro, has taken a significant step toward modernizing and improving the experience for both users and drivers. Starting today (25th), the service now accepts ride requests via credit card.

According to the Municipal Informatics Company (IplanRio), the app's manager, which is linked to the Municipal Secretariat of Finance, this new payment method addresses a long-standing request from drivers.

With a fleet of approximately 26,000 taxis in operation and an average of 120,000 passengers transported per month, Taxi.Rio Cidades is one of Rio's primary modes of transport. The inclusion of this new payment method represents an important innovation, aligned with the city's urban mobility concerns and current market technology trends.

For passengers, accepting this new payment method offers several advantages, including a significant reduction in the risk of theft, providing a safer travel experience.

Furthermore, credit card transactions generate digital records, which brings greater transparency to the service. This record-keeping facilitates users' personal financial management, allowing them to track and control their expenses through their card statements. This option also eliminates the need to carry cash, an additional benefit for those who prefer the convenience of digital payments.

For drivers, the new payment method not only modernizes the service but can also increase their customer base. Additionally, credit card requests speed up the ride completion process, resulting in faster and more efficient service.

This innovation also puts Taxi.Rio Cidades in a more competitive position against the ride-hailing apps that dominate the market. By offering a more practical and modern payment solution, Taxi.Rio Cidades reinforces its commitment to the Rio City Hall, providing a modern solution for the service offered to the people of Rio.
