From March 25th to 27th, Curitiba hosted the 7th edition of Smart City Expo Curitiba 2026, bringing together over 20,000 participants and cementing the event as the country's premier gathering on urban innovation. The Rio de Janeiro City Hall was represented by the Undersecretariat for Digital Transformation and Smart City, IplanRio, COR, and CIVITAS, reinforcing the municipality's leadership in the national agenda for smart cities and digital transformation in the public sector.
Participation in the event highlights IplanRio's strategic role as the public company responsible for developing, integrating, and maintaining essential technological solutions for city management. More than just supporting individual initiatives, IplanRio acts as one of the primary enablers of the City Hall's digital transformation, connecting technology, data, and innovation to strengthen public policies and enhance the government's responsiveness.
Rio's presence at the event has historically been associated with showcasing practical smart city solutions, such as the Rio Operations Center, a benchmark in data integration and real-time city management, and Civitas, an initiative focused on using technology and data to support municipal, state, and federal security forces. Part of this recognition stems from the continuous development of strategic systems with IplanRio's support, structuring solutions that have expanded the monitoring, analysis, and response capabilities of these initiatives. This technological support was decisive in establishing these structures as benchmarks, demonstrating in practice how technology can support faster decision-making, reduce operational costs, and increase the efficiency of public services, with direct impacts on citizens' lives.
Throughout the program, topics such as digital government, data usage, social inclusion, and sustainability took center stage, highlighting the importance of integrating technology and public policy to transform urban life.
Participation in Smart City Expo Curitiba reinforces Rio's integration into cooperation and innovation networks, which are essential for accelerating the implementation of digital policies and expanding the impact of solutions that are already part of the city's daily life.
