This past Tuesday (26), the Matrícula Carioca system, developed for the Municipal Department of Education (SME), began the student registration process for the municipal school network, enabling both enrollment and transfers for students ranging from new preschool entrants to elementary school and adult education (EJA) students.

The system breaks new enrollment records every year with registrations for new students and transfers for returning students, requiring our departments to work in an integrated and synergistic manner. This involves advance planning, performance testing, preventive measures, usability analysis, and server stress testing to handle a high volume of traffic in a very short period. The forecast for this year is 130,000 new enrollments by the final cycle, which concludes on January 17, 2025.

If you think the system is the same every year, you are mistaken. There is always something new, whether due to legal requirements or improvements to the process itself. In 2023, for example, the CPF became mandatory for all levels of education. This year, in addition to LGPD compliance updates, the system now supports continuous enrollment, serving as the entry point for any new student in the network throughout the year. Furthermore, it now also handles enrollment for partner daycare centers, which were previously managed in a separate system. This was a hot topic, heavily debated during the recent election campaign, where strategies for expanding daycare capacity were a major focus. These solutions are always designed with a focus on accessibility, convenience, and security for citizens, positioning the enrollment system as a strategic pillar of the Rio City Hall's educational policy.
